Children's Book Review: A Bad Mad Sad Day for Mama Bear by Mayra Calvani

A Bad Mad Sad Day For Mama Bear by Mayra Calvani
Illustrated by KC Snider

Little Bear offers Mama Bear various items to make her feel better, but she’s too busy to notice—until he gives her his super, so good, so very special dolly. Silly humor, alliteration, repetition, and onomatopoeia make this a fun read-aloud story. A celebration of the special love shared between mother and child. For ages 3-7.

Available as ebook, softcover and hardcover.
My Thoughts: Have you ever had one of those days that everything seemed to be going wrong? These kind of days are not fun and consequently, causes one to be in a foul mood and overlook the good things in life. In this wonderful illustrated children's book, Mama Bear doesn't have a good day and does not notice the comfort her son is trying to give her.

Everything is going wrong for Mama Bear: from burning breakfast, to her car breaking down, to causing a honey accident in the market, to being harassed by the baboon troupe. Mama Bear is having a very sad, bad day. Little Bear sees his mom struggling and finds objects to give to her to help sooth her, but Mama Bear is too busy to acknowledge him. Will Mama Bear have a better day? Will she finally look at Little Bear and see the love he's trying to give her?

Along with the beautiful illustrations by KC Snider, Mayra Calvani has put together a very cute children's book that talks about the importance of life even when things are going bad. Calvani uses fun language, such as repetition and onomatopoeia, to make the story come alive. Young children will enjoy this wonderful tale of Mama Bear and her Little Bear. I rate it:
